Talbina / Barley
~Hordeum Vulgare~
100g / 200g / 500g
Although Talbina is mostly known to be a flour, it's actually a broth made from barley which is white in colour and similar to that of milk in consistency.
It has a long history and widespread origin and has been used for centuries in dishes ranging from bread, to soup and cereal. The most beneficial type of barley is Hulled barley where only the outer husk is removed and thus the nutritional value remains. The barley grain is the most commonly used part however, the green barley leaves can also be used.
Barley consists of:
55% starch (carbohydrates)
15% Fibre
12% Protein
3% Lipids
and lots of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients.
When consumed, it is both cleansing and nourishing.
Talbina has been mentioned in many narrations of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaiyhi wa salaam (peace and blessings be upon him) and in Sahih Al Bukhari (Book of Medicine, 479/9), Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her) would say; 'Eat from it for indeed I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Talbinah is a relaxation for the heart of the sick person and it removes some of the sorrow".
